Railroad transportation changed the way American people traded. For instance, agriculture products were transported easily throughout the country. Meatpacking industry also benefited a lot. Natural resources such as coal became more available in all the country due to the railroad expansion. Railroad increased the demand for natural resources because railroads facilitated its transportation. The Steel industry also benefited with the railroads.  

The other options of the question were, a) decreased the supply of natural resources, b) decreased the demand for natural resources, and d) had no effect on the supply of natural resources.

ANSWER: The development of railroads in US was a major upgradation in the field of transportation. It provided quick transportation with cheap fares. The railroads would take only a few days to cover distances which were impossible during that time and would consume weeks. As the supply factor was smooth comparatively, the demands for natural resources rose up. People knew that it would not be costly for them to use those raw materials which were otherwise impossible for them to use because of the high transportation cost involved in the middle.
