Based on this excerpt from Susan Glaspell's Trifles, what can you conclude about Mr. Wright's character? HALE: Harry and I had s

tarted to town with a load of potatoes. We came along the road from my place and as I got here I said, I'm going to see if I can't get John Wright to go in with me on a party telephone.' I spoke to Wright about it once before and he put me off, saying folks talked too much anyway, and all he asked was peace and quiet—I guess you know about how much he talked himself; but I thought maybe if I went to the house and talked about it before his wife, though I said to Harry that I didn't know as what his wife wanted made much difference to John—

  • Mr. Wright did not like gossiping about other's lives.

Explanation:

According to the narrator, we can see that Mr. Wright likes silence and calm and therefore, he enjoys being alone, isolated, only with his own company. Furthermore, the passage shows that he is somewhat stubborn, not accepting advice and opinions from other people, not even from his wife. It also shows that he has no interest in the lives of others and therefore does not like to gossip.

What made the korean war particularly tragic? support your argument with a quote from the text. explain what your quote shows an
Lostsunrise [7]

Answer:

The Korean War, framed in the global context of the Cold War, was a war between the two newly created factions of North Korea, communist and supported by the USSR and China, and South Korea, democratic and supported by the United States and the western block.

This war began in 1950, when after months of tension the North attacked and took over much of South Korea. But the United States jumped in and pushed the North Koreans back to the Chinese border. Then China got involved and pushed the Americans and South Koreans back.

The communist forces took the democratics to the extreme south of the Korean peninsula, where after the battle of Incheon the latter began an advance to the north. This advance ended at the 38th parallel, where the war turned into a trench warfare without noticeable territorial movements.

This situation lasted until 1953, when a ceasefire was signed between the two Koreas. This ceasefire implied the constitution of two independent nations among themselves: North Korea and South Korea.

suter [353]

Answer:

Dear [insert friend's name here],

I am appalled by the new school rule that they have established here. It states that all students are required to wear uniforms. I don't think that this rule should remain, because it restricts students from expressing their culture, thoughts, or ideas through clothing. We already had a dress code. Hence, adding uniforms is simply over-the-top.

Sincerely,
