Williams Shakespeare was an English poet, actor and playwright (dramatist). Shakespeare was born on the 26th of April, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. He died on the 13th of April, 1616 in England.

Williams Shakespeare was considered to have lived a fulfilled life as he is the world's greatest playwright and writer in English language.

Around 1586, Shakespeare worked as an actor, writer and co-owner of a drama company called the Lord Chamberlain’s Men (later known as King's Men when it received a royal patent from King James I).

Generally, Shakespeare' drama are categorized into three (3) main categories and these are;

1. Comedy: a Shakespearean comedy isn't entirely like a mainstream comedy but it contains some moment of laughter and a dramatic storyline. Also, it sometimes end with the characters getting married to each other.

Some Shakespearean comedy plays are; The Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night, Taming of the Shrew, All's Well That Ends Well, As You Like It, The Tempest, The Winter's Tale, etc.

Hence, the main characteristics of a comedy include;

It includes happy endings.
It explores theme of love.

2. Tragedy: it contains a more serious and dramatic plot which typically involves the death of a main character (protagonist).

Some Shakespearean tragedy plays are; Romeo and Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, Macbeth, Titus Andronicus, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, King Lear, Othello, etc.

Hence, the main characteristics of a tragedy include;

It explores themes of personal flaws and downfalls.
It evokes fear and pity from the audience.

3. History: it's mainly focused on English monarchs and Elizebethan propaganda, glorifying her Tudor ancestors and illustrating the negative impacts of Civil war.

Some Shakespearean histories are; King John, Henry V, Henry IV, Richard II, Henry VI, etc.

Hence, the main characteristics of a history include;

It aims to instil national pride.
It dramatizes the lives of monarchs.
