The size of the Atlantic slave trade dramatically transformed African societies. The slave trade brought about a negative impact on African societies and led to the long-term impoverishment of West Africa. This intensified effects that were already present amongst its rulers, kinships, kingdoms and in society.

The cost of owning a slave such as food and shelter were pretty constant. And so if Plantations specialized in a certain crop, they let themselves open to sudden drop in income and consequently big losses. But my purchasing a range of economic activities, they had a steadier revenue flow to match there fixed costed
