The meaning of the term “Pursuit of Happiness.” In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson announced that every human being has “certain unalienable rights,” among which are those to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” What did he mean by “the pursuit of happiness”?
The Declaration of Independence has a section on natural rights because it states the rights of the people and the liberties they should enjoy as a citizen of the United States. Jefferson’s definition of happiness is giving people freedom and rights that everyone should have as a human being as well as them being a citizen of the U.S. He might also mean that people should live their lives without fear of being killed or being controlled by by some kind of ruler.
