If this is a catapult as in the sling shot like toy then....I would use (in my design) an elastic band for launching! A forked stick made of wood! And two prongs to hold the band in place!

Part I

A prisoner along with his palms tied behind his back and a noose around his neck is on a bridge in Alabama. Federal squaddies protect him, and there is a sentinel at every give up of the bridge. there may be rushing water under them.

The soldier similarly indicated that the bridge is lightly guarded on this aspect. there's also an accumulation of driftwood in opposition to it that would without difficulty burn.
