I'm not really sure what kind of question this is supposed to be, but i think it's likely that she believes in an afterlife because nobody knows what happens after death. maybe she doesn't believe in an afterlife, but she's unsure of what happens after death and is worried about it so she believes that something could happen but doesn't know what to think.

The economic system that United States use is Capitalism.
In capitalism, all the production that happen in the country is influenced by the power of supply and demand. Each individuals in the country has the freedom to do whatever they want in order to obtain profit from the existing demand in the market.
For example, if there's a strong demand for programmers and Doctors, individuals have the ability to pursue whichever field that they prefer and dedicate themselves to accumulate their skills for it. After that, they can sell their skills (as doctors or programmers) in order to accumulate wealth.
The amount of freedom that people have to address the market is why people often say it's depended on the exercise of individual rights.
There were two problems that had to be overcome.
- The weight. Plows weighed quite a bit and only oxen were strong enough to pull the plow. The early plows were made of wood to make them lighter until the second problem could be solved.
- The plow clogged. Usually plowing required 3 people: 1 to guide the team, 1 to guide the plow, and 1 to clean the blades. It could be done by one person, but it just made things slower.
So the problem seemed to be technology. They waited for the technology to address the problems they had in the fields. I guess the best answer is that metal plows were in short supply, but the real reason lay deeper.
