Mary Elizabeth Lease was an American writer , political activist and lawyer.
Her involvement in the growing rebellion of farmers in Kansas due to high mortgage interest made her more popular.This acted as a stepping stone for her in joining the People's (Populist) Party.
She joined and due to her complaint about the populist governor Lewelling’s administration her relevance gradually dropped till she was kicked out of the party. Her absence was the reason many people believe made the Populist party to lose the election.
