The French revolution had a big impact that lead to the rise of Napoleon. He became a well known military leader around 1796–97. In 1799some members of the Directory asked to Napoleon to help them establish some sort of stable government, capable of withstanding the recurrent threats. In 1802, Napoleon had himself elected to reign over France.
