An example would be Life is like a football, this would explain life in relation to how a football is being played or seen. In most cases, analogy would break down why a situation is so by taking a look at every component that makes up the problem, analyse them then explain them into solving the problem. This is what Dr Chan is doing with mutilated checker board problem, by solving the shoe problem before that of the checker board.
