"At the Hearth" by Laura Esquivel

English

Even though Esquivel knows the story of maiz is a myth, she nevertheless warns her daughter not to step on a kernel of corn because the corn represents fertility and the kernels are part of the ritual. It would be wrong, or perhaps even sinful to step on such an important symbol of their culture which is why Esquivel doesn't want her daughter to be in some kind of danger because of such a reckless act.

Which of the following is the most likely purpose and audience for this passage
polet [3.4K]

Answer:

to motivate a friend

Explanation:

The most likely purpose of this text is to entertain friends. The language that is used in the passage is not formal. This means that it is unlikely to be used to inform a college professor, to convince a school board, or to convince a potential employer. Moreover, the passage does not state any fact that would be relevant to any one of these audiences. Instead, it tells us of a personal experience that is likely to be interesting to the speaker's friends only.

Whats an allusion for the word freemasons?
Lilit [14]

An allusion is a literary figure of speech that makes a brief "reference to, or representation of, a place, event, literary work, myth, or work of art, either directly or by implication." The term is often mistaken for what is otherwise a "simple reference." There are several examples of allusions in "TCOA."
