by Yoshida Kenko It is well for a man to be frugal, to abstain from luxury, to possess no treasure nor to covet this world's goo

ds. Since olden times there has rarely been a sage who was wealthy. In China there was once a man called Hsu Yu. He had not a single possession in the world. He even scooped up water with his hands, until a friend gave him a gourd. But one day, when he had hung it from a branch, it rattled in the wind; whereupon, disturbed by the noise, he threw it away and once more took to drinking from his clasped hands. How pure and free the heart of such a man. A certain recluse, I know not who, once said that no bonds attached him to this life, and the only thing he would regret leaving was the sky. 10. VARVARA [1.3K]

Answer:

- The interpretivist approach.

Explanation:

As per the question, the perspective that the anthropologist should use would be 'The interpretivist approach' as Geertz proposes a cultural approach that devotes its prime attention to part played by symbols in forming the general meaning. By applying it anthropology, he asserts and demonstrates the semiotic nature of culture. His approach discuses the way people understand and gestate their world. Thus, <em>'the interpretivist approach' denies the positivism of science and would help understand the symbolic meaning of the 'wink' through 'thick description.'</em>

In at least one hundred and fifty words, explain the symbolic importance of the iron in the short story "I Stand Here Ironing".
motikmotik
<span>The iron is a  symbolic representation and a mirror of the struggles of the narrator as a mother. Tillie Olsen, the author of the book became a young mother during the 1940s. This led to her shifting her dreams of becoming a writer into taking care and raising her four children. <span>

</span>The story was focused on the struggles of working-class women who wanted to balance their family life as well as provide for their families. Ironing people’s clothes was one of those home-bound activities that women can do back then while at the same time help them raise their children.

The iron is also a symbolic representation of motherhood, and that it can be a tiring but also a fulfilling task that a mother can do. The story talks about humbling experiences (i.e. being a working class woman) that can still lead to values that are life-affirming. The setting of the story was during the period of nuclear war and economic recession and what women have to go through to raise their families and portray themselves as mothers in a struggling environment. <span>
