When do you use "Then" and when do you use "Than"?

"Then" is used in an "if-then" scenario, to dictate chronological order. In other words, "If you jump off, then you will fall," or "he was attacked and then retreated."
"Than" is used for comparisons. In other words, "The egg was bigger than the pea," or "I'm stronger than you."

In “blackberry pickin” we can see that the happiness of harvesting fresh fruits in the summer has an end, as well as the fruits themselves, which do not last forever. As “burning the old year,” it shows that what we accumulate during the year should be reviewed and thrown away if it is no longer useful.

Poems also have differences. While "blackberry pickin" shows the purpose of things as painful, "burning the old year," shows it as a fresh start.
