The epoch of the modern state in the West started in 1648 with the Peace of Westphalia that ended the Thirty Years´ War, a political and religious conflict with the participation of Protestant and Catholic countries. It is considered the advent of the nation-state of our days. In the developing world, states can be very weak and fail to exercise total control over its territory. What does it mean?
