The two super powers in Latin America were the United states and it's anti communist allies and the soviet union.

The behavior of both the super powers with the countries was not very nice. There were impression of repression by both the countries and this had to be brunt by the students, innocents, workers.
The populist part wanted to have a monetary system based on both silver and gold. They wanted a bi-metallic money system.
