“Hey” I yelled in an exited voice “ look what I found!” It was a white necklace, but what were those beads? I picked it up, they were hollow and small, rubbing it around in my hand realizing it was pearls. “ I found a pearl necklace!” These things are worth fortunes. I decided to sell it so I drove myself to a pawn shop. For some reason I don’t know why I wanted to taste them, “they seem fine enough” I said aloud. Swishing then in my mouth noticing how weird they feel but how nice they taste, I took it out of my mouth and set the necklace down. Half an hour later nearly to the shop it started smelling really bad. I pulled over so I could search my car, nothing. “ what is this horrible smell?” While I was looking around the car a cop pulled over. He started to say “Hey you need help?” But stopped dead sentence when he got to my car. He picked up the necklace and smelt it. “ why would you own such a horrid smelling thing?” I snatched it from him and had a sniff for my self. “That’s what smells bad!” I said in relief “but why does it smell so bad?” The officer offered to take me to the shop since my car smelt so bad he about threw up. Turns out it was somehow washed up from a thousand years ago and worth hundreds of millions.

What is freedom? What do people mean when they say they want freedom? Is that really what Andrew wants? Does he know? Suppose someone gave him 10 million dollars. What would that mean?

Would it mean he would never have to return to the business of packing grocery bags and listening to blaring announcements that really mean nothing to him? Would it mean that he could do anything he wanted? Would it mean that he could live endlessly on a beach when he wasn't driving around. Yes, it would mean all of those freedoms. That's what Andrew thinks is Freedom.

So having defined Freedom for Andrew, where do we find it in the writing. Begin with the second paragraph. Gets home, turns on the ignition and kicks the thing into a high roar. And off he goes.

He's responsible. So he starts off slow, but soon speeds up to keep up with the highway traffic. That's part of the freedom: keeping up with whoever is on the highway -- fast driving. Andrew always preferred driving in open air. Wherever he lives, Open Air feels good. [Good thing he doesn't live in Canada where it can get to > - 40oC.]

He dreams of riding forever and never returning to his job. That's freedom. Just find the sentences that say what I've said.

One: The first one depends on what you are told. The character is against a whole bunch of people, plus whoever is competing in the Marathon. I would say it is character against society because there is no one person he is competing against. Check your notes.

Two: A Snake bite? Are snakes not a part of nature? It's man against nature.

Three: A husband and wife arguing? What else is new? Character against character.

Four: Character vs. Self. What shall she do? There's no one else in this scenario. So it is one character vs no one else but herself.

For this one, I'm just going to post an answer. If you disagree, use your answer. The sentence at the end of the first paragraph is the one I would go with. "The world to me what a secret which I desired to divine." Yes he likes the female and she is a good companion, but he finds nature much more interesting. You could pick the next sentence as well.
