1.In 1823, Alexander Twilight earned a Bachelor’s degree from Vermont’s Middlebury College, becoming the first confirmed Black person to graduate from college in the United States.

24.In 2005, Condoleeza Rice succeeded Powel as Secretary of State, becoming the first African American woman to serve in that capacity.
