1.In 1823, Alexander Twilight earned a Bachelor’s degree from Vermont’s Middlebury College, becoming the first confirmed Black person to graduate from college in the United States.

2.In 1835, Oberlin College in Ohio became the first college to implement an official policy of allowing Black students to enroll.

3.Established in 1837, Cheyney University in Pennsylvania is the oldest historically Black college or university (HBCU) in the United States.

4.In 1868, Howard University established the Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. It became America’s first medical program for Black students.

5.In 1960, Ruby Bridges became the first Black child to integrate into a school in the South. She attended the formerly all-white public school system in New Orleans, Louisiana.

6.In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared that all slaves would henceforth be free.

7.In its unanimous 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision, the Supreme Court found racial segregation in public education to be unconstitutional.

Exploration: The point of Spanish exploration were in search of valuable minerals/rocks, wealth, looking for "The city of gold" or a.k.a El Dorado.

The point of England exploration was to find spices, silks, and wealth.
