Why must zebras and wildebeests fill different niches on the open plains and woodlands of africa?
SCORPION-xisa [38]

The occupation of different niches on the open plains and woodlands of Africa by the zebras and the wildebeests is a result of niche partitioning. The zebras and the wildebeests in a common niche would compete for food, water, shelter, and space. This competition would affect the population growth of the two species by negatively affecting their reproductive capabilities. Thus, in the same habitat, the two species choose to occupy two different niches such that the competition between them is minimised. Hence they end up in separate niches.

Why is pyruvate imported from the cytoplasm into the mitochondrial matrix?
grin007 [14]

Answer:

So that oxidation of pyruvate can take place in mitochondria.

Explanation:

Pyruvates is produced in the glycolysis process which occurs in the cytoplasm. So pyruvate is produced in the cytoplasm of the cell. Pyruvate is produced by partial oxidation of glucose and to be fully oxidized it has to enter in the mitochondria.

So after entering the mitochondria the pyruvate first converts into acetyl CoA than this acetyl CoA enters in the citric acid cycle and fully oxidized into CO2. This oxidation generated NADP and FADH2 which provide reducing power during oxidative phosphorylation.
