The subject is about a family tragedy of the main character and how she was lost and had to rely on others in a different language. English and Spanish are two different languages, and the title alone does show the Spanish word for "name" which does imply that these will be some key elements.
The tone is debatable, but I'd describe it as a suspenseful tone with a bit of eeriness and sadness because it would be silly to call this story a "happy-story where all things go good" and there is very little plot, heroism, and so on.
The theme of the story is giving significance on culture, particularly the American and Dominican Republic culture and how they differ and have significance. The secret message almost seems to be trying to explain how different cultures and traditions can vary vastly. However, there are multiple styles of writing on this book because it was translated, just as the Bible is. It would be smart to provide an exact link referencing to the site you had read this story from because the sites that offer this freely may be expressed differently as a result. Writing Translators can be just as unreliable as Google Translator which is why you should develop your own opinion on this story.
