Well this is a very subjective question with many possible answers, but let´s put it this way. Let's say I'm of the Democratic party and the nominee doesn't believe in cliamet change or is against free healthcare for all americans. These two values goes against everything we stand for in the Democratic party and he surely won't get my vote as a nominee to represent my party.
