In the mail, you receive a coupon for $5 off for a pair of jeans, which is represented by the function j(x)=x−5. When you arrive

at the store, you find that all jeans are 25% off, which is represented by the function s(x)=0.75x. Which of the functions below represents how much you would pay for a pair of jeans, C(x)=s(j(x)) , if you use the coupon first followed by applying the discount from the store? (Do not consider tax.)
A.C(x)=0.75x−5
B.C(x)=0.75(x−5)
C.C(x)=0.75x−x−5
D.C(x)=x−5−0.75

Firdavs [7]

Answer:

  Store A has a better deal because $402.90 is less than $404.10.

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Store A</u>

The $25 off coupon reduces the price to ...

  $499 - 25 = $474

The discount from this amount is 15%, so is ...

  $474 × 0.15 = $71.10

The final amount paid is then ...

  $474.00 -71.10 = $402.90

(<em>Side note</em>: you can select the correct answer at this point, because only one answer shows this value.)

___

<u>Store B</u>

After the $20 off coupon, the price is ...

  $469 -20 = $449

The additional 10% discount amounts to ...

  $449 × 0.10 = $44.90

So, the final price is ...

  $449.00 -44.90 = $404.10

___

Now, you know that Store A offers the better price because $402.90 is less than $404.10.

If the exponential parent function,
laila [671]

Answer: f(x) =3^{-x}-4

Step-by-step explanation:

Some transformations for a function f(x) are shown below:

If f(x)+k, the function is translated up "k" units.

If f(x)-k, the function is translated down "k" units.

If -f(x), the function is reflected across the x-axis.

If f(-x), the function is reflected across the y-axis.

Therefore, knowing those transformations and given the exponential parent function:

f(x) = 3^x

If it is reflected across the y-axis and the it is  translated down 4 units, we can determine that the resulting function is:

f(x) =3^{-x}-4

The area of a rectangular wall of a barn is 32 square feet. It’s length is 4 feet longer than the width. Find the length and wid
Gnom [1K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Givens

Area = L * w

w = x

l = x  + 4

Area = 32

Solution

32 = x(x + 4)

32 = x^2 + 4x

x^2 + 4x - 32

(x + 8)(x - 4)

Only x - 4 is going to make any sense

x - 4 = 0

x = 4

The width is 4

The length is 4 + 4 = 8

4*8 = 32 which is the area.
