They helped because they had to pick the cotton for clothes and to sell to buy things from other people. They also helped by fighting with the people that were in the army already. When she emigrated Ireland and came to America on the SS Nevada, her voyage wasn't difficult at all. She escaped her poor, famine-torn country, and went to America to find a better future. She was the first immigrant to be allowed to live in America, where she found a husband and had many kids and led a happy life.
