Solve by completing the square: x^2+15=8x
Nataly_w [17]
x^2+15=8x
x^2-8x=-15
x^2  - 2 (x)(4) =-15
adding 16 on both sides
x^2  - 2 (x)(4) +16=-15+16
x^2  - 2 (x)(4) + 4^2=  1

(x-4)^2=1

taking square root on bothsides x-4 = +-1
so x-4=1         or x-4=-1
x-5           or x=3

Find the value of K that would make the function continuous in each case. Explain how you found your value
Fiesta28 [93]
A)lim(x--->-3) x^2-9/x+3=x-3=-6
k should be -6 in A
B)lim (x---->0) e^x-1/x --HOP-->e^x/1=1
k should be 1 in B
C)lim (x---->1/2) sin(5πx)-1/2x-1 ----hop-->5π*cos(5πx)/2=0
k should be 0 in C

There's 2 questions here that need to be answered.

Find the value of each variable.
gladu [14]

Answer:

5. x= 13 y= 18.4

6.

Step-by-step explanation:

question 5:

tan45=x/13

multiply both sides by 13 to get x by its self.

end up with 13×tan45 so put that in the calculator to get x

then you do cos45= 13/y

multiply by y on both sides.

end up with y×cos45=13

divide the cos45 by both sides

put 13/cos45 to get y

question 6:

sin30=4/x

multiply x on both sides

end with x×sin30 =4

divide sin30 on both sides

put 4/sin30 in a calculator to get x

same thing again but with tan30 ahaha

31-inch piece of steel is cut into three pieces so that the second piece is twice as long as the first piece and the third piece
pychu [463]

"31-inch piece of steel is cut into three pieces"

Call the pieces a,b,c

a + b + c = 31

"second piece is twice as long as the first piece"

b = 2a

"third piece is one inch more than seven times the length of the first piece"

c = 1 + 7a

Ok, we have our equations, let's substitute the second and third into the first.

a + 2a + 1 + 7a = 31

10a + 1 = 31

10a = 30

a = 30/10 = 3

b = 2a = 6

c = 1 + 7a = 22

Check: 3 + 6 + 22 = 31, good

Answer: 3 inches, 6 inches, 22 inches
