The first step is calculate the difference d_i=y_i-x_i and we obtain this:

The second step is calculate the mean difference

The third step would be calculate the standard deviation for the differences, and we got:

Now we have everything in order to replace into formula (1):  

-9.7-3.25\frac{11.451}{\sqrt{10}}=-21.469  

-9.7+3.25\frac{11.451}{\sqrt{10}}=2.069  

So on this case the 99% confidence interval would be given by (-21.469;2.069)

Part c

We got the same conclusion as part a, sicne the confidence interval contains the value 0, we FAIL to reject the null hypothesis that the difference between the two means is 0.

You know what percentage of the "pie" (in this case, circle) you want, because they give you the angle of the sector and you know a circle always has 360°. So technically, you're trying to find 48/360 th of the entire area (36\pi). If you're using a calculator, it doesn't matter if you simplify the fraction, but if you're doing it by hand simplifying makes everything a lot easier.

The equation will be:

Area = 24/180 × 36\pi

= 2/15 × 36\pi

= 72\pi/15

= 24\pi/5
