Answer:

The width of the pathway is 5.2 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that the shape of the garden and the walkway is a rectangle, the walkway would have the same length as the garden but would have it's own width.

Let the width of the garden be W and that of the walkway be t while the length of both the garden and walkway is L. The combined area A

= L( W + t)

Given that the combined area of the garden and the border 311 square feet while the garden is  14 feet by 17 feet

311 = 14 (17 + t)

311 = 238 + 14t

collect like terms

14t = 311 - 238

14t = 73

t = 73/14

= 5.2 feet

Amiraneli [1.4K]
Multiplying 72.15 by .11 or 11% gives you 7.94 - this is the tax taken.
so just subtracting that from 72.15 gives you $64.21 as your answer.

Explain he differences between properties of equality and properties of inequality when solving equations and inequalities.
nadya68 [22]
The difference between properties of  equality and properties of inequality that you need to take into account when you are solving equalities and inequalities is the effect that some operations have on the sign.

1) The multiplicative property of equality permits you to multiplicate both members (sides) on an equality times a factor and the equality will remain. But in an inequality, while the factor is positive the inequality will remain but when the factor is negative, the sign of the inequality will change.

2) The same is true about the division property:

3) When you use othe functions like absoulte value and square root you will also need to be attentive of the effect of the function on the sign of the equality,.
