The land gained by the United States as a result of the Mexican war is known as Mexican Cession. This land eventually paved the way for the addition of states including: Texas and New Mexico.

We refer to this land as the Mexican Cession, which includes California, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and even parts of Colorado! This may or may not also include Texas (it usually does), as Texas had already declared independence from Mexico before the war and was already an independent country. It joined the Union right before the war, which is actually part of why the war started since Mexico and America couldn't agree on the border.
