They argued about who owns the Oxen meadows which Natalia's family persistently claimed </span> that they owned the meadows for long. To break the silence, Lomov talks about his lamed dog, Guess, whom he is very proud of. Natalia then added that her dog,Leap, is far better than his. So, they argued and the proposal was again forgotten.
