Natural disasters modify the species' natural habitat. This modification forces species members to adapt to the new environment. This adaptation generates changes in these individuals and these changes are passed on to their descendants. These descendants begin to multiply, generating more members with this modified characteristic, which allows the species to be modified little by little. This happens with species that, after surviving a natural disaster, no longer had access to a specific resource or that were isolated geographically.

Another way to modify the species is through natural selection, which occurs in a similar way to what was explained in the paragraph above. However, in natural selection, members of each species that have characteristics favorable to the environment modified by a natural disaster, will be able to survive and pass this characteristic on to their descendants. However, members of the species that do not have this characteristic will die without descendants and allow the species to be modified.
