Read through the following description of bullfighting.  Although it is in Spanish, try to get the main ideas of the paragraph.  For clarification, feel free to read the English translation that follows the Spanish paragraph.

La corrida de toros es un deporte popular en España y México.  La primera corrida de toros tuvo lugar años atrás. Originalmente los toreros usaban caballos, pero finalmente terminaron peleando contra los toros a pie. Hay muchos papeles jugados en la corrida de toros. El papel más importante lo juega el matador. El matador es el torero principal  quien tiene la responsabilidad de asombrar al público con su valentía, destreza y gracia al pelear con el toro. Al final de la corrida, el matador mata al toro dándole una estocada. Antes de que el matador tome control de la corrida, es ayudado por picadores y banderilleros. Los picadores le causan sus primeras heridas al toro al pincharlo y causarle pérdida de sangre, por lo que se hace más simple para el matador el matar al toro después. Los banderilleros más tarde hieren al toro al pincharlo con palos especiales.

Las corridas de toros son actualmente tema de mucha controversia. De acuerdo a sus partidiarios, las corridas de toros son una tradición cultural e histórica que deben continuar. Por otro lado, los oponentes dicen que es simplemente abuso animal.

English Translation

 

Bullfighting is a popular sport in Spain and Mexico.  The first bullfight took place almost 1300 years ago.  Originally the bullfighters used horses but eventually they ended up fighting the bulls on foot.  There are various roles played throughout the bullfight.  The most important role is played by the matador.  The matador is the main bullfighter who has the responsibility to amaze the audience with his bravery, skill, and grace in fighting with the bull.  At the end of the fight, the matador kills the bull by stabbing him with a sword.  Before the matador takes control of the fight, he is assisted by picadoresand banderilleros.  The picadores cause the bull its first injuries by stabbing the bull and causing loss of blood, thus making it easier for the matador to later kill the bull.  The banderilleros further injure the bull by stabbing it with special sticks. 

Bullfighting is currently filled with controversy.  According to its supporters, bullfighting is a cultural and historical tradition that should be continued.  On the other hand, opponents of bullfighting state that it is simply animal abuse.

What is your opinion of bullfighting?  If you were in Mexico or Spain, would you attend a bullfight?  Why or why not?  Are you aware of any controversial traditions in your culture?  How is that tradition similar to or different from the tradition of bullfighting?

¿Cuál es tu opinión sobre las corridas de toros?

Personalmente creo que esta "costumbre" debe ser abolida puesto que el toro es maltratado brutalmente solo para divertir a las personas, por donde sea visto es maltrato animal.

¿Por qué o por qué no?

NO porque no estoy de acuerdo con el maltrato animal, el toro sufre al ser lastimado varias veces antes de ser matado.
