MissTica

Answer: Yes she does Dr. Mary Edwards Walker was born November 26, 1832, in New York. She was known to challenge the fashion standards of the time, often dressing in male clothing rather than the restrictive female clothing of the era. In her schooling she decided to pursue a career in a field that was predominantly male at the time, graduating with her doctoral degree in medicine in 1855. After graduating she started her own private practice in Columbus, Ohio.

After the Civil War broke out in 1862 she started volunteering as a nurse in Washington, DC after being denied a commission as a medical officer. After taking a brief break she rejoined as a volunteer and she started working on the battlefields in hospital tents in Virginia.
