Answer:

It is raining in the beginning of the chapter.

Explanation:

In The Great Gatsby, weather is often tied to the emotions and tone of Daisy and Gatsby's relationship. In the beginning of this scene, it is pouring rain, and Gatsby and Daisy are reunited, rather awkwardly. Their reunion is somewhat melancholy and awkward, considering how long it has been since they have seen each other and the fact that Daisy is married to Tom. The pouring rain gives the environment of narrative a bit of an awkward and melancholy tone. We see this change when their love begins to rekindle and the sun slowly comes out.

Read the excerpt from section 3 of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge." Overhead, as he looked up through this rift in the wood,
Finger [1]

The excerpt contributes to the theme of fate in that it suggests that Farquhar is wrestling with forces larger than himself.

The fact that he was sure of the malign significance of the strange constellations and the voices he hears, suggests that Farquhar thinks an evil force has interfered in his life to have him killed.

Later in the story, however, we learn that the third part of the story was actually a hallucination that came to him between being thrown from the bridge and the rope breaking his neck, and that Farquhar has indeed died.
