Provide an explanation for each of the following strange facts about Mercury:

Chemistry
1 answer:
frozen [14]3 years ago

Answer:

Explanation:

1. Mercury’s atmosphere is incredibly thin.

It's thin because the atmosphere is made up of atoms blasted off its surface by the Solar wind and also consist of the stream particles coming from the outer layer of the sun

2. The length of a mercury year is about 1.5 times longer than a mercury a day.

Mercury revolves around the sun very quickly but rotates around its axis very very slowly

3.The temperature range on Mercury is about 590 °C.

During the day, temperatures on Mercury's surface can reach Very High But,  the planet has no atmosphere to retain that heat

Choose the aqueous solution below with the lowest freezing point. These are all solutions of nonvolatile solutes and you should
atroni [7]

Answer:

(NH_4)_3PO_4 0.075 m solution has the lowest freezing point.

Explanation:

Depression in freezing point is given by:

\Delta T_f=T-T_f

\Delta T_f=K_f\times m

\Delta T_f=iK_f\times \frac{\text{Mass of solute}}{\text{Molar mass of solute}\times \text{Mass of solvent in Kg}}

where,

\Delta T_f =Depression in freezing point

K_f = Freezing point constant of solvent

1 - van't Hoff factor

m = molality

According question, molality of all the solutions are same and are in prepared with same solvent. So, values of molality and K_f will remain the same and will not effect the freezing point of the solution.

The lowering in freezing point will now depend upon van't Hoff factors of the solutions. Higher the value of van'Hoff factor more will be the lowering in freezing point of the solution.

The van't Hoff factor of KNO_2 solution = i_1=2

The van't Hoff factor of LiCN solution = i_2=2

The van't Hoff factor of (NH_4)_3PO_4 solution = i_3=4

The van't Hoff factor of NaI solution = i_4=2

The van't Hoff factor of NaBrO_3 solution = i_5=2

The solution of ammonium phosphate has the highest values of van't Hoff factor which will result in maximum lowering of the freezing point of the solution.

Hence,(NH_4)_3PO_4 0.075 m solution has the lowest freezing point.

What type of compound is formed by the transfer of electrons from one atom to another?
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

ionic compound

Explanation:

ionic bonding

In ionic bonding, electrons are completely transferred from one atom to another. In ionic bonding, electrons are completely transferred from one atom to another. In the process of either losing or gaining negatively charged electrons, the reacting atoms form ions.

pls vote brainliest it would rlly help me out ❤❤❤

50 POINTS!!!
lesya692 [45]

The answer is: K is more reactive than Ca because K has to lose only one electron to complete its outermost shell.

Potassium is a chemical element with atomic number 19 (number of electrons is 19).

Electron configuration of potassium is: ₁₉K 1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁶4s¹.

Potassium is the alkali metal and has a single valence electron in the outer electron shell.

Periodic law is the arrangement of the elements in order of increasing atomic number.

For example all alkaline metals (I group of periodic table, Na, K, Cs...) loose one electron in chemical reaction and react vigorously with water.

Reactivity series is an empirical progression of a series of metals, arranged by their reactivity from highest to lowest (alkaline metals have highest reactivity and Noble metals lowest reactivity).

The ionization energy (Ei) is the minimum amount of energy required to remove the valence electron, when element lose electrons, oxidation number of element grows (oxidation process).

Alkaline metals (far left in main group) have lowest ionizations energy and easy remove valence electrons (one electron, earth alkaline metals (right next to alkaline metals) have higher ionization energy than alkaline metals, because they have two valence electrons.
