How does the conflict between Helmer’s private and public selves develop the theme that appearances can be deceiving?
pickupchik [31]

Answer:

Helmer acts kindly toward Mrs. Linde while she is present, but insults her when she leaves.

Explanation:

In Henrik Ibsen's realism play "A Doll's House", the main and also recurring theme is that of appearance and reality. The very case of the two conflicting themes is played out in the character of Helmer.

Helmer is the husband of our protagonist Nora. He seems to be the type of man who wants to have full authority over his wife and children. He admonishes Nora even when she wants to buy something for herself. One of the most prominent cases of his contrasting characters is in Act 3 where he acts all so good and gentlemanly with Mrs. Linde, a friend of Nora. She had been waiting for them the whole time they had gone dancing upstairs. But once she leaves, he remarks "<em>at last we have got rid of her. She is a frightful bore, that woman</em>". This shows his differing appearances of when in public and in private.

Read the sentence.
gregori [183]

Answer:

<u>of</u>

Explanation:

A preposition is a function word that usually precedes a noun or pronoun and that shows a relationship between that noun or pronoun and other words. There are many prepositions, some of them include <em>of, up, after, before, until, at, for, after </em>and<em> on.</em>

In the sentence, "of" is a preposition because it shows a relationship between the noun "the spirit" with the noun "invention". The other words, on the other hand, are not prepositions: "forever" is an adverb, and "but" and "and" are conjunctions.

In paragraph 1 of Robert Oppenheimer’s speech, what does the phrase “recipient of confidences” mean?
Reptile [31]

Answer:

people have told the speaker their secrets

Explanation:

Robert Oppenheimer was made the in-charge of the bomb designer project. He was instructed by Leslie Groves, the head of the project, that the ongoing projects are to be kept under secrecy from the other scientists. Oppenheimer opposed the idea of keeping secrecy from other scientists. In his speech he focused on the presence of belief and trust that the scientists should endure in themselves. It was agreed that there would be a close and secret relationship among the scientists related to the scientific researches and findings.
