The reason that Marbury v Madison is considered a landmark supreme court
case, is that it was one of the very first supreme court cases in which
the the principle of judicial review was applied. In this particular
instance, an act of congress was deemed unconstitutional by the supreme
court, and thus they made the decision to void the act.
