Answer: The most important event in chapter eight of The Outsiders is Ponyboy and Randy's conversation outside of the diner. The significance of this scene is that Randy and Ponyboy find a common ground by talking about Bob and the school children. Randy realizes that Greasers are more than just hot-headed guys who like to fight, and Pony realizes that just because the Socs are different, they are people too, just like him. They both leave with a better understanding of each other, almost like bridging a gap between the Socs and Greasers.

How does dehumanization and othering impact society?
ch4aika [34]

Dehumanization and othering makes a vast difference on society as a whole. It will not only change how we see our selves but what we see, believe, or even care. Humans are a very emotional, vulnerable, and some could say too dependent. It will cause, little to no uproar, as such feeling would feel restricted, so no one would say out loud, what is wrong with people or them or really do anything. because the people of that society, would feel restricted and have a invisible wall around them restricting them from normal freedom and will doubt them selves a lot. Simply we would be robots, with a mind that is not open for suggestions or something new. No one would strive to be better or put goals for them selves or even care for there lives. Thought we will not be emotionless, some would want to have fake happiness, feel superior or really do anything to gain a glimpse of there emotions. This society will lead to more psychopaths and sociopaths and even more harm to ourselves to try to gain that glimpse of emotion.
