Now we want to find the area of the rectangle

the area of a rectangle is simply equal to the width times the length

so

so we can conclude that the area of the rectangle is 24ft^2

Finally we add the two areas together

24 + 4 = 28

thus meaning the area of the irregular figure is 28 ft²
