Para la Ecología la Geografía es una disciplina muy importante a causa de la distribución específica de los seres vivientes sobre la Tierra.

Actualmente, hay variables diversas que influyen en el estudio de la geografía:

Fuerzas físicas: geofísica.

Estructuras: litosfera, hidrosfera, atmósfera.

Ciencias de la tierra: hidrología, meteorología.

Elementos químicos: geoquímica.

La geografía nace de la necesidad de ubicarse en el espacio, viene de las raíces geos (tierra) y grafos (descripción), por tanto en sus inicios tenía como principal objetivo describir y sistematizar el terreno que las personas tenían a su alrededor
