I'm not sure if this is right but you can set up an equation and solve to find Maggie's age:

Maggie's brother's age = b
Maggie's age = m

b = 12 - 3m
44 = 12-3m
12-3m = 44
-12 -12
-3m = 32
÷ 3 ÷3
m = 10.67

So this would be Maggie's age

Tile cost per square feet = $1.  65

To find the area, split the floor shape into two shape.  

One is trapezoid and the other is parallelogram.  

Let's count the grid given.  

The parallels sides of trapezoid are 7 ft and 4 ft, height is 7 ft.  

The base and height of the parallelogram are 4 ft and 4 ft respectively.  

Area of the trapezoid =1/2 ×(sum or parallel  sides)× height

                                      =1/2× (7+4)×5

                                       =1/2×11×5

Area of the trapezoid = 27.5 sq.ft  

Area of the parallelogram = base × height  

                                       = 4 ft × 4 ft  

Area of the parallelogram = 16 sq. ft  

Total area = 27.5 sq. ft + 16 sq. ft  

              = 43.5 sq. ft  

Cost of area per sq. ft = $1.65
