How should monologues be structured
marta [7]

Successful monologues usually involve a great deal of behind-the-scenes effort, as well as a lot of concentration and practice. Structured monologues show the learner’s ability to organize and present information on familiar and less familiar topics in simulated situations. When delivering a structured monologue the key point is to organize your speech in a logical, coherent and cohesive way. A monologue as any structured presentation generally falls into three parts: the introduction, the main body and the conclusion. Each of the parts plays an essential role with its unique function. The introductory or the opening lines of the structured monologue are the most important of all. They could help create the positive impression on the listeners. Good way to start your speech is to say something that grabs the audience’s attention, for example:

• A quotation from a famous/ well-known person;

• A rhetorical question;

• A strong, powerful declarative statement;

• A scenario opening, which usually begins with “Imagine...”. Do not forget to connect the opening lines of your speech with the main thesis of the structured monologue. The body is the biggest part of the speech, where the majority of information is transferred. This is the part of the monologue where the main points should be made.

Read the excerpt from "The Three Questions" by Leo Tolstoy.
son4ous [18]

Answer:

“All the answers being different, the King agreed with none of them, and gave the reward to none. But still wishing to find the right answers to his questions, he decided to consult a hermit, widely renowned for his wisdom.”

“The King went up to him and said: ‘I have come to you, wise hermit, to ask you to answer three questions: How can I learn to do the right thing at the right time? Who are the people I most need, and to whom should I, therefore, pay more attention than to the rest? And, what affairs are the most important, and need my first attention?’”

Explanation:

The Three Questions is a short story written by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy. It's written as a parable - a simple, short story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson.

It tells about a king who seeks the answers to what he considers the three most important questions in life. He turns to wise men, promising a large sum to the one who manages to give him the answers. However, none of them satisfied him as he found their answers too diverse. Then, he heard of a wise hermit and decided to turn to him for help. In the end, he is the one he receives his answers from.

The quotes that support the conclusion that the author's primary purpose is to teach a lesson are the first and fourth ones. They are the only ones that revolve around the King's questions. The fact that he is looking for answers suggests that we will receive some kind of important lesson at the end of the story.

Which statement is most likely a theme of a work of fiction? A) traditions are important and can help make our lives meaningful.
Lynna [10]

Answer:

Option A

Explanation:

In simple words, Fiction is typically a fictional form, in either format, made up of characters, incidents, or locations that are fictitious — in other terms, not solely based on reality or truth. In its narrowest use, literature refers to published stories in literature, most mostly primarily novels, but also plays most short storeys.

Thus, from the above we can calculate that the correct option is A.
