what i see is her mind or imagination. she was a famous artist, and i think what their trying to show u in the photo, is how creative and unique the way her brain worked in the creative department. and how she put that on canvas, it shows how complexed she was when working with her art work.
it may be the morning or evening. (pictures now have filters and it's hard to find the original.) I say that because of the lighting on the water, and I think there is some gradient blending on the water lilies. (the dark to light greens) Hopefully this helps some.
