The significance of the full title of the play: The Importance of Being Earnest (A Trivial Comedy for Serious People) is that, marriage plots and social comedy were also typical of 1890s literature.  The white, Anglo-Saxon, male society of the time provided many targets of complacency and aristocratic attitudes that playwrights such as Wilde could attack.

The title of Oscar Wilde's most successful play. The Importance of Being Earnest features a salient pun in the form of the word "Earnest<span>",

Earnest means </span><span>"<span>honest", and "truthful"

</span></span>At the very beginning of the play, we learn that Jack has created a convenient younger brother named Ernest. We don't know why he comes up with that particular name, but we’re guessing Jack had a laugh or two over it. Jack, Ernest,<span> fools his lady friends, all of whom have an obsession with the name "Ernest." Both Gwendolen and Cecily are in love with that name, based on an assumption that boys named Ernest will be as honest as the name suggests.

Which lines from "the love song of j. alfred prufrock" are an allusion to these verses? there will be time to murder and create,
aalyn [17]

The lines from "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" that are an allusion to the verses from the Bible are "There will be time to murder and create, / And..."

<h3>What is an allusion?</h3>

Allusion can be defined as a reference to something or someone that is well known. For example, if you read a text in which someone is called a good Samaritan you will know that it means he is a good person. That is an allusion to a biblical story, in which a good Samaritan helps a person who has been beaten.

We have an allusion to verses from the Bible in the poem "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock." In the Bible, the verses are about how everything has a proper time to happen. In the poem, the lines that allude to them are:

  • There will be time to murder and create,
  • And time for all the works and days of hands.

With the information above in mind, we can conclude that the answer provided is correct.

The missing excerpt needed to answer this question is:

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.
