Damage to the adrenal gland can lead to an increased need for salt.
Adrenal gland is a part of your body which secretes many hormones. One of such hormones is called corticosteroid, which is responsible for regulation of salt in your body. So obviously if your adrenal gland is damaged, the regulation of salt will not function properly.
