Answer:

The order of prosthetic groups as they act in the three proteins of the PDH (pyruvate dehydrogenase) complex is ________.
Alexxx [7]

Answer:

The correct answer will be thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) → dihydrolipoamide → Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD).

Explanation:

The pyruvate dehydrogenase complex is a multi-functional enzyme which decarboxylates the pyruvate to form Acetyl CoA. The complex consists of three catalytic enzymes which attach the non-protein part to its structure.

The prosthetic groups are the non-protein groups which bound strongly to the enzyme. In this complex the prothetic groups are :

1. Thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP)- attached to Pyruvate dehydrogenase (E1).

2. Lipoamide: attached to dihydrolipoyl transacetylase (E2).

3. Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD): attached to dihydrolipoyl dehydrogenase (E3).

These enzymes work in sequence: E1 →E2→ E3 therefore, the correct order of prosthetic group will be thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) → dihydrolipoamide → Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). Thus, this is the correct order.

How do immunoglobulin genes code for a seemingly infinite variety of antibodies?
Ivanshal [37]
Answer: Think of DNA-there are only 4 bases, but different combinations give infinite possibilities. And the same for amino acids and proteins. Immunoglobulins work on a similar principle. Different VDJ segments are combined for the heavy chain of an antibody. Different VJ segments are combined for the light chain. Other ways: Random nucleotides may be added or removed between the gene segments. There are also different combinations of light and heavy chains. Antibodies can be any of the 5 isotypes: IgA, IgM, IgG, IgE, IgD. I'm not going to go into detail as this answer would take too long to write. Do some literature searching on B cells, V(D)J recombination, RAG genes, class switching.
