The items sent from North America differed from those exported from Europe in that the items sent from the colonies were raw materials and natural resources, and the items sent back to America from Europe were goods that were fabricated in the large industries and factories of Europe.

So the colonies produced quality cash crops and exported them to the European markets. There, in Europe, factories and mass production produced final goods that were exported back to North America.
