Would it have been better to be a free black in the north or in the south explain

History

Being a freed black slave was much better in the north following the civil war. Those slaves in the north were with people who fought for their freedom, while those in the south were freed because the war was lost, not because people believed they should have freedom. Whites in the south viewed freed slaves in a much harsher light and had much hatred for them and treated them poorly.
