Dear Friend,

I am afraid I cannot spend Christmas with you this year. I know you had planned a big Christmas party because we would be together but I cannot go.  I really wish I could go but something urgent came up. My mother was on her way to my house just yesterday and she got into small accident and she got injured. The doctor said she injured her lower back and can't get up or make any types of movements. She told me to go and celebrate Christmas with you and that she'll be ok, but I did not want to leave her alone at the hospital, I want to be there for her and we might be spending Christmas here at the hospital. You know how my mom doesn't like me to worry but she needs me at this moment. Also, the doctor said that the accident was not that big but the impact on my mother's back was really bad. The thing is I fear that my mother will not be able to walk anymore. I was told by the doctor that she will be having a surgery to see if that will help my mother to get up and move again. I do not want you to be worried but I am not sure how to tell my mom about her not being able to walk again if the surgery doesn't go well. I know how much she loves to go out for walks around the park and how she likes to travel and this has me a little bit emotional. I ask you not to worry about this, but please tell the others because I also know how happy and excited they were about this party. We haven't seen each other in a while and I really miss you my dearest friend. I apologize for not being able to make it to the Christmas party. We can make plans again next year.
