After World War I, the League of Nations was created to try to help keep the peace and solve problems between nations. The same went for the United Nations after World War II. There were also the treaties that ended the wars. (You'll have to decide whether or not these were actually successful.)

When early labor organizations brought together staff (workers) in the same trade/job to fight for better wages and some better working conditions as they all work together. The "unions" method for setting all their demands set is that they would force workers to work until all of the demands are correct/met.
