Why hadn't Europeans used maritime routes before the age of exploration

History

They didn't have the ships and navigation skills to travel around Africa to Asia.

The Age of Exploration would not have been possible without the inventions of new ships like caravels or the extensive research/studying of navigation by individuals like Prince Henry the Navigator. These two factors allowed explorers to have a more reliable means of transportation and a better understanding of the geography/conditions they would face during their expeditions.

How does the united nations define genocide
lina2011 [118]

Answer:

The word “genocide” was first coined by Polish lawyer Raphäel Lemkin in 1944 in his book Axis Rule in Occupied Europe. It consists of the Greek prefix genos, meaning race or tribe, and the Latin suffix cide, meaning killing. Lemkin developed the term partly in response to the Nazi policies of systematic murder of Jewish people during the Holocaust, but also in response to previous instances in history of targeted actions aimed at the destruction of particular groups of people. Later on, Raphäel Lemkin led the campaign to have genocide recognised and codified as an international crime.

"There is no liberty if the power of judging is not separated from legislative power and the executive power."
Tanya [424]

Answer:

The correct answer is D. Baron de Montesquieu.

Explanation:

Montesquieu was a famous philosopher and author of the Enlightenment. His main work, The Spirit of the Law, is an extensive work that deals with many areas of law and compares the provisions of law in force in different countries in different eras. However, the work is best known for the fact that in it Montesquieu presents his doctrine of the three divisions of power, which has played a very important role in the development of the forms of government of Western democracies. Montesquieu considered the concentration of power to be the worst threat to civil liberties. His solution to this threat is the doctrine of the threefold division of power, according to which the legislature, the executive, and the judiciary had to be in the hands of different people.
