The first two chapters reveal how human nature of the average person is very innocent and innately good, shown when Jack hesitates to kill the pig because he is scared.

Mr. Grant Munro was hesitant to speak to Sherlock Holmes about his problem because it concerned his wife which he regards as private to him.
This is related to Mr Stonecrops role in the conflict because it shows he is most likely against Turner so he will not be very helpful towards being a mediator
