Wounded Knee, South Dakota, was an importante place for American Indians because it was the site of a massacre by US troops in 1890.
The Wounded Knee Massacre took place on December 29, 1890, near the Wounded Knee creek in the Native reservation of Pine Ridge, located in the state of South Dakota.
At least 150 members of the Lakota tribe had been killed and 51 others were wounded in it.
